Have the post-holiday blues gotten you down? Then you need Merry in your life! This sweet, loving girl brings happiness and smiles with her wherever she goes. She is a well-behaved dog who is a fast learner and wants more than anything to bond with her person(s) and make them happy. She was found as a stray in Kayenta and probably never had a home, which is so sad considering what a sweetie she is and how much she loves people. She is exceptionally friendly towards people and dogs, and would do well in a home with kids (over 6) and/or other dogs due to her easy-going, playful nature. She is smart, learns quickly, and loves to take part in Doggy Day Camp at Kingsmark Kennels. She currently has some separation anxiety when she is at home alone, possibly due to the fact that she very recently was separated from her seven puppies. She was a very devoted mom and exceptionally mellow around her little pups, easily letting people pet them and not getting anxious around them. Due to her current separation anxiety, her new people need to be willing to either crate her while they are gone (she is very good in a metal crate, but is too social and loving to be crated all day long) or take them with her wherever they go (her preference) until she works through this time in her life. The good news is that she is very good in the car and loves riding in it. She responds very well to voice commands, and would do well having adventures with her new family. The best part about Merry is her disposition ? sweet, eager to please, and a fast learner. What more could you want? Her foster mom says that after only two weeks in her home, she has learned very specific rules, such as which bed she is allowed on (only one) and Merry has not challenged those rules. But be prepared ? she will want to know all the rules as soon as you take her home, so be consistent! Although Merry will give chase to cats that run, we think she would be OK in a home with a cat that stood its ground. Merry is great with other dogs & would love to have a canine friend to play with. She may have Doberman or Heeler in her. Merry would enjoy a person who mountain bikes or runs or hikes but she also thinks the Winnebago lifestyle is one she could adjust to quite well. She is 37 lbs. We are not certain about her attitude toward cats yet. She will need a 6 ft fence if you want to leave her unsupervised in the backyard. She is house-trained and dog door-trained. Merry loves to play with toys and retrieves most of the time. She also comes when called (99% of the time).
